Concept

A nature-inspired pattern collection capturing the intricate details discovered when looking down at the forest floor. This suite explores the natural world through a set of six illustrated patterns, presented in applications such as wrapping paper, bed linens, and fabric bolts. The design challenge was to maintain visual continuity across the series while introducing variety in complexity and scale.

Description

Set of six illustrated patterns presented in varied applications.

Athyrium filix-femina, Lady Fern Pattern

A one-color design depicting the lady fern, a plant common to Michigan. Each frond features intricate sub-patterns, with every leaflet composed of three unique, custom-made pattern brushes following the frond’s path. Designed for seamless tiling, the pattern can be scaled to any size and works best in a dark-on-light palette. Displayed as bedding.

Lavandula angustifolia, English Lavender Pattern

Inspired by vintage Scandinavian wallpaper, this design features a muted, complementary color palette and a visible yet unobtrusive repeat, making it ideal for large-scale applications. Displayed alongside Respite—my acrylic painting that represents the importance of allowing myself time to rest and experience the present moment, and the value of time with loved ones, in this case my late cat, Marshmallow.
