Frieze Pattern Rings

Scroll

Concept

These natural brass rings were created using four unique frieze patterns. To create depth within the ring, I assigned a depth map to the shapes based on whether they would recede or rise. Two of the rings feature leaf designs, specifically the ginkgo biloba and the bur oak, while the other two rings continue with the natural theme. One of these rings features a koi fish pattern in a gently oscillating pond. The other is based off of my original muse, my late cat’s paw, complete with the calico markings that adorned it.

The creation of these rings posed a significant challenge, as depth maps can be challenging to understand. However, despite the difficulties encountered, the resulting rings created a stunning final product.
